Mumbai: 15-year-old boy dies after hit with bat on cricket field in Dharavi

Concerns were raised in Dharavi over the broad daylight incident as the ground sees youngsters thronging due to summer vacations.

A 15-year-old boy was killed after he was hit by a cricket bat in a Dharavi playground on Saturday.

The incident occurred at around 4 pm at Gandhi ground located at 90 feet road close to the Dharavi police station. The deceased Amir Ansari, a resident of Dharavi, was playing with a group when an argument broke out between them on the field. “During the argument, the accused who is 16 years old, grabbed the wooden bat and attacked Ansari,” said a police officer.

The assault was such that Ansari collapsed on the ground. He was taken to nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead. The juvenile has been booked for murder and the police are under process to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
