The transport department has allowed private vehicles, such as school buses and goods vehicles to ferry passengers, during the indefinite BEST bus strike, which started on Monday morning.

“All private buses, school buses, company-owned buses and goods vehicles are being allowed to ferry passengers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region,” reads the notification issued by the department.
As many as 36,000 employees of BEST’s transport wings went on strike on Sunday night. As a result, 3,700 BEST buses, which usually ply on 500-plus routes, went off the city’s streets. Lakhs of suburban commuters faced a tough time, saving autorickshaw drivers were fleecing them.
The school bus operators are currently offering cheap rides — Rs20 will take you 10km closer to your destination.
