By women, but for women, men and children too. From next week, Matunga railway station on Mumbai’s central railway (CR) will be operated by an all-women staff.
Central Railway PRO AK Jain said, “In a week, the railway station will be an all-women station.”
Several women staffers have already been posted at the station.
According to reports, the experiment, if successful, will be repeated at other stations too.
This is not the first time the Central Railway is taking the lead in empowering women.
In 1992, its staffer Mamta Kulkarni became the city’s first woman station master. Kulkarni was posted in Kurla.
Matunga railway station, which is located in central Mumbai, gets a huge number of student population as a lot of colleges are located in the area.
