NCP demands SIT probe into death of 2 Ahmednagar activists
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) demanded a special investigation team (SIT) probe into the murder of two of its activists from Jamkhed town of Ahmednagar district. Senior NCP leader and former speaker of the state assembly Dilip Walse Patil made the demand after visiting the victims’ families on Tuesday.
The two NCP activists Rakesh Ralebhat and Yogesh Ralebhat were shot dead by three assailants in Jamkhed town earlier this month. “The police took both the injured victims to a private hospital instead of taking them to a government hospital. The delay in treatment led to their deaths. This has happened in the recent past as well,” Patil said, raising questions about taking the bodies of the victims to Pune in order to conduct the postmortem.
Last month, NCP corporator Kailash Girawle, also from Ahmednagar, died while in judicial custody. Alleging that the corporator died due to police torture, the NCP had demanded a judicial probe into the matter.
The corporator was arrested in connection with the deaths of two Shiv Sena leaders in the district. Shiv Sena’s deputy head in Kedgaon Sanjay Kotkar and another leader Vasant Thube died after being shot and attacked with sharp weapons last month.
