Senior police inspector in Mumbai with two rape charges dismissed

A senior police inspector of the city police has been dismissed from service after allegations of rape were levelled against him by two women. Medsingh, who was last attached to the Riot Control Unit in local arms division, was booked in two cases of rape by the Azad Maidan and Dahisar police in 2014.

In the first case, the survivor was a 22-year-old, who had told the cops that she met Medsingh in February 2005 when he was posted in the Bandra unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC). He befriended her and allegedly raped her several times in hotels, promising to marry her. He also allegedly forced her to undergo abortion whenever she got pregnant.

The other victim, a woman from Dahisar, met the officer in 2003 when he was posted at Dahisar police station. She had gone to the police station to file a complaint against her husband for domestic violence. Under the pretext of helping her, Medsingh befriended her and in March 2003, allegedly raped her at gunpoint in a car inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Medsingh could not be reached for a comment. Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Deepak Devraj did not respond to phone calls and text messages.
