Seven people arrested for robbing cash delivery boys in Thane

The accused used to first do a recce of the shop and get details of the delivery boys. The police have registered 11 cases where all cash delivery boys have been looted in a similar way.

A gang of seven, who used to follow cash collection boys and rob them, has been arrested. One of the gang member committed suicide three months ago.

Shital Raut, senior police inspector from Thane crime branch unit 2, said, “We arrested seven people on April 21 in connection with a robbery in 2016. The accused had looted a cash delivery boy of Rs7.4 lakh.”

“While investigating we also found that one of the accused committed suicide three months ago by drinking poison over being ditched by his girlfriend in Kolhapur. The accused are history-sheeters and have been committed crimes since 2014.”

The police recovered 37 demonitised notes of Rs1,000, and new currency notes of Rs2000 and a laptop.

Raut added, “We have detected more than 11 cases of looting cash delivery boys.”
