Social media accounts of woman from Thane hacked, photos uploaded
Mumbai city news: The woman told the police that she suspected one of her friends may have hacked her accounts and uploaded the pictures
An 18-year-old woman on Friday lodged a complaint against an unidentified person for allegedly defaming her by hacking her social media accounts and uploading pictures of her.
She is a first-year BCom student from Thane.
She told the police that she suspected one of her friends may have hacked her accounts and uploaded the pictures.
The police are seeking the call records of some of her friends.
“In May 2016, somebody posted her picture on a fake social media account. Later, she could not access her social media accounts. The woman said that her Instagram and Snapchat accounts were also hacked.
“On these platforms, her pictures have been uploaded without her knowledge. The username was also changed,” said an officer from Naupada police station.
The police also suspected it may have been an elaborate prank by her friends.
They have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
