The train will depart at 9am from Karmali from Thursday instead of 7.30am.

However, it will continue to arrive in Mumbai at 7.45pm.

The revised time is valid only during the monsoon, when the train runs at restricted speed while crossing difficult terrain in Konkan.

After passengers said they were inconvenienced by the early departure time of the train, KR decided to postpone the departure time.

“We have found the path available for the train so train could reach Mumbai without any change in arrival timing,” said LK Verma, chief spokesperson of KR.

Flagged off by railway minister Suresh Prabhu, the train takes around eight-and-a-half hours to cover 630-odd km between Mumbai and Goa. But the travel time increased to 12 hours and 15 minutes from June 11 owing to the monsoon.

The change in the monsoon timings came after railway officials said that the first high-speed luxury premium train would be run on a new powerful diesel engine from Monday.

The engine, specially facelifted for the train, can run at a speed of 160kmph, faster than the current engine. It will also make the train journey safer. The Konkan route is not entirely electrified.
