Two persons were arrested on Tuesday, for cheating a Pune businessman of Rs11 lakh. The police are on the look out for their accomplice.

The accused had promised businessman, Anil Kumar Pillai, that he would arrange Rs3 crore, that he needed for a construction project in Pune. The police said Pillai who owns land in Pune, was looking for a financer to fund construction projects. He approached a friend, Rakesh Tripathi, who claimed to know people in Mumbai who would finance his projects. “Pillai, along with Tripathi, came to the city earlier this year and met one Barve, who said he could arrange Rs3 crore. He asked Pillai to arrange Rs11 lakh as processing fee,” said a police officer.
Pillai came to the city on Tuesday with Tripathi. He met Barve and another man, Amit Patil, at a hotel in Borivli. He handed over Rs11 lakh to Barve. “Barve, Patil and Tripathi asked Pillai to wait at the hotel. Patil and Tripathi returned and told Pillai that Barve had run away with the cash,” added an officer.
The police found that Patil and Tripathi were also involved in the plan to cheat Pillai.
“Patil and Tripathi have been arrested for criminal breach of trust,” said senior inspector A Kenjale.
