Pramila Mhaske, who lived in the Anand Nagar slums near the tracks, had been missing since Friday evening.

“After her labourer parents filed a missing person’s complaint on Friday night, we started looking for her. Locals found her in a 5-ft deep sewer in the area. We suspect she may have slipped and fallen into the sewer while playing near her shanty,” said Senior Police Inspector Bhimrao Rathod, of the Chembur police station. The post-mortem report confirmed that the girl had drowned.
