Azad Maidan violence: MP sends cheque to cops

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Bangalore, has sent a cheque of Rs. 5 lakh to the Mumbai police as reward for nabbing the two miscreants who vandalised the Amar Jawan memorial near Azad Maidan.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Bangalore, has sent a cheque of Rs. 5 lakh to the Mumbai police as reward for nabbing the two miscreants who vandalised the Amar Jawan memorial near Azad Maidan.

Following the Azad Maidan violence, Chandrasekhar, who is also the chairman of the National Military Memorial Committee, had announced the reward for anyone who provided information on the vandals.

Joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy said the cheque has been received by the crime branch. It was accompanied by a congratulatory note written by Chandrasekhar. “We are humbled by Chandrasekhar’s noble gesture and appreciation of our work,” Roy said.

Roy said the cash award will be passed on to the unit 10 of the crime branch, and in particular to assistant police inspector Rauf Sheikh and his team. Sheikh and his team arrested both suspects.

While Abdul Qadir Mohammed Ansari was arrested from Sitamadi in Bihar on August 28, Shabad Abdul Kadir Shaikh was arrested from Mahim.
