Padwankar had recently purchased a flat in Kishan Nagar at Kalwa in Thane district. “He had worked really hard to purchase the house. He and his family were currently living in the same locality with his brothers and parents. They were looking forward to it,” Ajinkya Padwankar, Padwankar’s paternal cousin, told HT.

According to Ajinkya, Sachin was the youngest member of the family was everyone’s favourite. “ I last met him a few months ago when we played cricket together. He loved the game. But we couldn’t continue meeting on Sundays after he took up the new job [with DHL] six months ago.”

Another friend said Padwankar was a jovial person by nature, who loved sports and watching Marathi plays.

Soon after news of his death spread, Padwankar’s friends assembled outside Parksite police station to ensure that proper action was taken against the person at the wheel.

Sameer Sawant, one of his friends, said, “We are afraid that as policemen are involved in the accident, the entire matter may be hushed up. We want to be assured that proper action will be taken against the driver of the car that hit our friend.”
