According to the police, the 32-year-old victim, Dnyaneshwar Kakde, was a resident of Ganesh Nagar in the Kajupada area of Borivli (East), where he lived with his mother Krishna-bai, 65. His wife Sunita had committed suicide at the couple's Nashik residence.

Palve had filed a complaint of abetment of suicide against Kakade and his mother. The Nashik police had arrested the two for abetment, but they were later released on bail. They had moved to Mumbai three months ago, when Kakde had threatened to kill them.

On Wednesday morning, Kakde visited Palve's Dahisar residence and had an argument with the latter's parents over a petty issue. Palve was at work at the time. On being informed about the spat when he returned, he visited Kakde's house at around 9pm with the intention to carry out his threat.

After Kakde's mother answ-ered the door, Palve slashed her neck with a cut-throat razor. He then entered the bedroom and slit Kakde's throat while he was asleep. "We arrested Palve from his residence about two hours after the murders. He has been remanded in in police custody," said Ansar Pirjade, senior inspector of the Dahisar police station.
