She has sung Bollywood chartbusters such as Saturday Saturday (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania; 2014) and Iski uski (2 States; 2014). Now, singer Akriti Kakar is going beyond Bollywood. She has sung two songs for a Pakistani movie. “I have sung Rab diya rab janay and Noor e khuda for the film Ishq Positive. I had worked with the movie’s music composer, Walid Hamid Khan, on an album a few years ago. He told me he would love for me to sing for a film. So, we recorded the songs when he came to India last year. I am glad I recorded the tracks in his presence,” says Akriti.

Rab diya rab janay also features the voice of celebrated Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. “It is a beautiful number. It is my first song with Rahatji. When I had recorded the track, he had called me and said he loved my singing,” she says.

Akriti adds, “He told me, ‘Aapne toh itna acha gaya hai ki main soch raha hun ke ek baar doobara gaa deta hun (You have sung so well that I feel I should rerecord the track).’ I was touched. To be appreciated by someone like Rahatji is amazing,” says the singer.

Akriti adds that singing for a Pakistani movie was a nostalgic experience for her as half of her family is from Peshawar, Pakistan. “If my Dadu (paternal grandfather) was alive, he would have been happy,” she says.
