Now, music director Anand Raj Anand will be part of the Commonwealth Games’ opening ceremony in New Delhi on October 3. The singer is currently in the Capital rehearsing for the event. Apparently, singing for the Games was an idea initiated by Anand’s son. “One evening my son asked me what we were doing for the Commonwealth Games. I told him we are bringing the world together. He then suggested that I too should be on stage,” Anand says.

In the following days, Anand sat in his studio and composed and wrote two songs. “I somehow had the confidence that the songs would be selected. I sent the recordings to Delhi CM Sheila Dixit and Suresh Kalmadi. To my surprise, they liked and approved of them instantly,” says an excited Anand. More than 100 dancers and an additional number of musicians will be part of the gig. He has even filmed a video, which is currently on YouTube for viewing. The performance for the two songs —

Invitation

and

Celebration

— will last for eight minutes.
