The band, Bramhanaad, will give its first performance after winning a talent hunt last month

What is the band all about?
Bramhanaad is a fusion band with folk, rock and classical elements woven together. They are learning about life and surroundings through music.

Why this name?
‘Brahma’ means universe and ‘naad’ means sound. The universal sound is the philosophy behind this name.

musicHow long have they been around?

They started in 2007.

What makes them click?
All of them hail from the same school. The love for a similar form of music, coupled with the strong bond of friendship, brought them together as a band.

How has life been after winning the Real Rockstar contest?
The number of shows and gigs being offered to them has gone up by almost 50 percent. They feel that people are more open to their style of music, which is quite different.

The one thing the band hates about other Delhi-based bands?
They do not hate anybody, as they believe in working along with everyone. The members of the band want to practice really hard and continue producing good music, no matter how many years it takes them to reach their desired platform.

How is their music different from other bands in the city?
They try to mix a range of sounds from percussion instruments, like the tabla, drums, Punjabi dhol, khanjani and durbuka.

What is the one thing they would want to improve on?
The band is working on incorporating more classical elements in the vocal parts of their songs.

What challenges have they faced till now?
They have performed at Durga puja pandals in the city during their first two years to raise money.

What is next on their agenda?
They are preparing to launch their first album.

Their claim to fame

This four year old band, which performs fusion with folk, was selected from 20 bands all over India as the ‘Real Rockstar’ by filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and his team last month. Though the members reached at the last minute for the preliminary round, the original lyrics and soulful melody of their number, Khwaab, helped them in winning the contest.
