Trance, Lap, Rocking Evils, Reverb, Lure, et al. These aren’t random words stacked together but names of watering holes that have opened in the Capital in the last few months. The new-age night-out destinations are conventional no more — they’re swankier, experimental and bear names that have instant youth connect.

Lap, for instance, spells out as Lounge And Play. “The idea behind the name is simple; it’s a place you can lounge at with friends while the DJ plays the music,” said actor and co-owner Arjun Rampal at the time of its launch. While he chose to keep the name short, the makers of Trance in Noida didn’t have to do much thinking. Since the club plays only trance music, naming it wasn’t difficult.

However, besides the self-explanatory ones, club owners feel chic, crisp names work wonders. “You’ve got to be innovative to strike the right chord with the young crowd because they’re the ones spending in clubs. Short names stay with you, but they ought to be chosen keeping the ambience and property in mind,” said Vikas Goyal, MD of Rocking Evils in Pitampura.
