Don’t compare Sachin song to Kolaveri Di: Dhanush
Dhanush defends his latest song, says he did it out of love for Sachin Tendulkar.
Singer-actor Dhanush, became an overnight sensation after his song, Kolaveri Di, went viral last year. But his second attempt — the Sachin Tendulkar anthem that was launched last week — is being widely criticised. “That’s the problem,” says Dhanush, who recently shaved his head as a prayer ritual at Tirupati.

“People are comparing it with Kolaveri Di. Don’t compare. Anything I do now will be criticised because Kolaveri was so huge. I didn’t want to do anything for one and a half years after Kolaveri, I just wanted to live the moment. But when an offer came along from Boost (energy drink brand), I had to accept because Sachin is a hero. We all are his fans,” he says, adding, “I cannot ask people not to compare. There is not much I can do about it. I’m only happy and glad I took it upon,” he says.
The singer, however, feels it’s too early to give a judgment since “most people have only seen the anthem once. It got a brilliant opening with 4,80,000 Youtube hits on the first day. Initially, even Kolaveri Di was criticised by people saying that I am spoiling English and Tamil.” The actor-singer believes in taking negative comments in his stride: “I am a human being. I can’t satisfy everyone. To those who didn’t like the anthem, I’ll only say, ‘OK, I’ll try to do better.”
Dhanush says he’s eagerly waiting for Sachin’s response to the anthem. “I am really waiting for him to hear it, but even if he doesn’t like it, I won’t mind as I did it out of love.”
