The film fopped but Monty Sharma's music in Saawariya was liked by one and all. The composer is now looking forward to Love Story 2050, Right ya Wrong and Booby Deol's next Chamkoo.

What’s up after Saawariya?

More music.. more imagination.. more compositions. I change my tunes immediately if they sound even a little bit familiar.

How many tunes do you compose in a week? How many of them are original?
All my music is original. Only originals! In a week, I compose six tunes.. at times none.

What kind of music have you aimed for the Bobby Deol movie Chamkoo?
Very contemporary, soulful, very much for the masses..which is the way I always want to be.

Dharmendra has stated that he was very involved with the music of Chamkoo. So what were his inputs?
He has been hearing all the songs from time to time, he was present for the recordings. His inputs are primarily situation-based and deal with the emotional quotient.

What about Subhash Ghai’s inputs for Right or Wrong?
There is a lot of trust in our relationship. He has visited me only once, he knows I will fulfil his expectations. He gives me my space, he doesn’t interfere in the creative aspects.

Are you open to actors or technicians giving suggestions?
I only accept sensible suggestions.

Are you more comfortable with background scores or songs?
Background scores are more difficult because they run through the entiremovie—it also requires me to connect consistently with the characters and the emotions of the movie. Song compositions are fun.. they are short and sweet.

What kind of a background score have you recorded for the futuristic Love Story 2050?
It’s based on very newage sounds. It’s a blend of acoustic and electronic instruments.

The music sales of Saawariya crashed once the movie flopped.
Not at all.. the CD is still on the top 10 charts.. Jab se tere naina is still popular. Even though the movie flopped, the music is rated among the best in recent times.

Do you plan to sing.. given that most of your contemporaries are singing?
Not right now, may be later.

Is your domestic life affected because of constant music recordings?
When I was doing the background for Devdas, my marriage was postponed four times.. but she never complained. Finally the fifth time we got married. She was mentally prepared for my odd working hours.
