Stars shine at music gala

The MTV Video Music Awards took place on Thursday afternoon at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. Rihanna’s We Found Love was video of the year, Drake’s HYFR (featuring Lil Wayne) was best hip-hop video. British boy band One direction won best pop video and best new artist.

There were performances by Pink, Green Day, Frank who sang Thinkin about you, Alicia Keys who performed She's just a girl and She's On Fire, and an appearance by the women's Olympic gymnastics team. Singer Taylor Swift closed the ceremony with her new single, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. There was also some drama. Singer Rihanna gave a peck on ex Chris Brown cheek which, reportedly, angered Brown’s partner Karrueche Tran.
