Singer's new Album Twist and Shout, will feature a desi version of the song.
What can we expect from your new album, Twist & Shout, which is due to release on June 11?
This is my first album after two years. The style is very contemporary. The album has the traditional Stereo Nation style of fusion which we are known for. Also, there is a lot of influence from the music of the 60’s.
You are officially coverin a song by The Beatles. How did that come about?
Twist and shout by The Beatles has been a favourite since childhood. The original songwriters loved my Bollywood style version. They are absolutely bananas over it. I have constantly experimented with my music. I think that is the reason why I have been successful. So, we took a chance on this song. I believe in writing songs that remain evergreen. I hope this version will extend the legacy of this classic song.
Have you collaborated with any artistes for this album?
I believe in helping and brining out new talent. I like to provide opportunities to artistes who are new. On this album, I have collaborated with DJ Bohemia on a club remix of Holi holi nach and with Rana Shaad on Dost karleh toast. Also, DJ Shadow from Dubai has worked with me on a remix.
You have worked with DJs and musicians all over the world. Who did you enjoy working with the most?
There are no favourites. I can’t put it down to one person because everyone has their own individuality. Different moments are shared with different people. But yes, one of the most exciting producers from India is DJ Hamza. It was exciting working with him. We are co-producing a new electro rock band called Chilli Town. We’ll launch it later this year. It was a delight and pleasure to work with him.
Pop fusion music was big once but nothing major has happened since the last couple of years. Do you think it’s the right time to release Twist & Shout?
I believe in making songs that stand the test of time and are remembered. People will buy music if it’s brilliant and even pick up the CDs 20 years hence. But as far as trends go, the scene has not been very happening. Everything has a cycle. Bollywood music was not always as popular as it is today. So, there was Pop, then Bollywood, now we hope Pop will make a comeback though Twist & Shout.

Are there plans to tour with the album?
Yes, indeed. We are putting together a world tour with Twist & Shout right now. And there will certainly be an all-India tour as well.
