For all you Indian heavy metal enthusiasts out there, here’s a chance to display your talent. Wacken Open Air (WOA), one of the major festivals on the European metal calendar, is organising the Bangalore Open Air (BOA) fest on June 16 in collaboration with their official promoters, Infinite Dreams.
Salman U Syed, founder of Infinite Dreams says, “Having been an active participant of Wacken every year, and a die-hard fan of heavy metal, it was a dream come true to host this festival in India.”
When asked why he chose Bangalore as the venue for the final contest, Syed says, "Bangalore is the heavy metal capital of India, so it's the perfect place to conduct the first ever festival of this kind. BOA will be an incredible experience for metal fans in the country. We are organising this event on the lines of the festivals that take place across Europe. This will bring along authenticity."
Excited about organising BOA in India this year, one of the founders of WOA, Thomas Jensen adds, “India is a new market for us, and the people here are huge fans of the genre.”
Admiring the versatility of the Indian audience, co-founder of WOA, Holger Hübner says, “Indians love this genre of music and they deserve an event like this. We’re really looking forward to it.”
The fest will have 12 hours of non-stop head banging music and will feature world-renowned metal bands such as Kreator and Iced Earth.
The auditions for BOA will be held in Mumbai, New Delhi, Guwahati and Bangalore. Four winners from these cities will go on to the final in Bangalore. The winner at BOA will get a slot to perform at the big gig in Germany in August this year.
