Chhotepur supporters vow to break away from ‘Delhi-led’ AAP
CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party faction supporting sacked convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur broke away on Friday, vowing to work against the “Delhi-led” AAP, ending any possibility of the estranged leader’s going back to the party’s fold. Chhotepur, add sources, is expected to join forces with the ‘fourth front’.
Seven of the 13 zone coordinators of AAP announced the split at a press conference here, claiming that theirs was the “real” AAP led by Chhotepur. “Ours is AAP Punjab and has nothing to do with the party led by Kejriwal,” said JS Dhaliwal, zone coordinator, Anandpur Sahib. He added that Chhotepur will soon announce ‘A AP Punjab’ candidates to contest the forthcoming elections.
Reacting to the development, Chhotepur said that while he appreciated the “emotions” of zone coordinators, he will take final orders from his supporters. “But I am not going back to AAP. That chapter is over,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of joining hands with the fourth front, Chhotepur said he will do whatever is suggested by supporters. But he agreed that if several splinter groups do not unite, it would help the Akalis.
