SRINAGAR: Separatist leaders on Tuesday issued a joint appeal to the Jammu and Kashmir police, saying they “should not use live ammunition against common Kashmiris who are your own people, unlike the Indian army and the CRPF”.

A joint statement by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik said that the police are a part and parcel of the Kashmiri nation. “(They) should look inward and ask themselves as to why they have become an instrument of repression at the hands of Indian authorities in killing and injuring their own children and young men,” it said.
