House burgled, Rs 2.5 lakh cash, Rs 6 lakh worth jewellery stolen

The incident took place when Arti Deep and her husband, who is a Hindustan Times staffer, were in Bulandshahr.

“We left home around 2pm on Sunday and came back around 10.40pm. We saw that the locks on the main door were broken. When we went inside we found that the almirahs were damaged, gold jewellery and Rs 2.5 lakh that we had borrowed for medical expenses were missing,” Deep said.

The victim’s family said that a laptop, iPad, two mobile phones, two gold chains, four gold rings, earrings and gold bangles were missing.

Police, after initial investigation, said that someone had knowledge that the occupants would be away on Sunday. A written complaint was filed by the victim with Indirapuram police on Monday.

A carpenter, who found the stolen iPad on a road in Sector 58 of Noida around 7am, handed it over to the police.

“We are gaining insight into the theft by gathering more information about the incident. The stolen iPad was also found. We will use electronic surveillance methods as well. The culprits will be nabbed soon,” Salman Taj, superintendent of police for Ghaziabad, said.
