Noida: Amrapali homebuyers’ protest enters Day five

The Amrapali Group had in 2009 launched Amrapali Dream Valley project with a total of 47 towers in Sector Tech Zone-4. Of the 12,000 dwelling units, around 8,000 flats have been sold but the builder has completed only 40% of the construction work.

Amrapali Group homebuyers on Wednesday continued their fast for the fifth day outside the builder’s office in Sector 62. However, no representative from the government, the Noida authority or the Amrapali Group came forward to address their demands.

Now, two buyers — Vijay Kumar and Ashok Saraswat — are sitting on the hunger strike, demanding their investment back and legal action against the Amrapali Group’s chairman and managing director, Anil Kumar Sharma.

Singh and Jain have been fasting from Saturday while Kumar and Saraswat joined them on Sunday.

“If the Noida authority or the Amrapali Group’s officials do not come for talks and assure us on our investment in the next two days, we will intensify our agitation. Our demand is simple — give back our investment and arrest Anil Kumar Sharma, who has cheated thousands of homebuyers,” said Kumar.

The NCLT is expected to decide on insolvency cases on August 18. Since the Ultra Homes Private Limited is a parent company of the Amrapali Group, buyers in all projects are worried.

“Ultra Homes Private Limited is the parent company. If anything happens to this company, it will affect all housing projects including Sapphire, in which buyers are living without common facilities,” said RK Shrivastava, a retired naval officer and buyer in Sapphire project in Sector 45.

The protesters said they will block roads on August 19. “Buyers from many other projects, even those having booked houses in projects of other builders, will join us on Saturday. We will reveal our protest plan on Saturday,” said Satish Kumar, a buyer, said.
