A road that passes through Sector 54 and 58 hits Sector 61 forming a T-point on the Master Plan-II Road. Snarls are common here as motorists often jump the traffic signal in their hurry. As Master Plan-II Road is one of the city’s main roads, congestion on this road spills over to nearby roads too.

Residents in sectors 60, 52, 53, 58, 12, 33, 23 and 58, among others, face congestion while commuting within the city. Apart from this, motorists who travel from Noida to Ghaziabad, and vice versa, also face trouble due to the congestion at the T-point.

After closing the T-point, the authority will build U-turns at two points on the Master Plan-II Road for better traffic management.

“We have decided to close the T-point after we realised that the traffic pileup at this point led to snarls on the whole of Master Plan-II Road. After two U-turns are made, commuters will get relief from snarls,” said SC Mishra, project engineer of the Noida authority.

According to the authority, one U-turn will be made towards Sector 18 and another towards the traffic intersection.

“Motorists coming from sector 12/22 road and going to Shopprix Mall side will use the U-turn between pillars 122 and 123 of the elevated road on the Master Plan-II Road towards Mamura intersection. For motorists coming from Mamura Chowk towards sector 12/22 side, they will take the U-turn between pillar number 11 and 112 towards Sector 18,” Mishra said.

Work on the project has started and is expected to be complete within a month.

Residents, however, said closing the T-point will not solve congestion problems.

“Once the T-point is closed, congestion will shift towards U-turns. The solution is that more traffic cops should be deployed to enforce rules and better management,” said Raj Khurana of Sector 53.
