India win gold in air pistol mixed team event

Jitu Rai and Heena Sidhu won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed event at the World Cup, beating Russia 7-6.

New Delhi - The Indian team comprising Jitu Rai and Heena Sidhu won the 10m air pistol mixed team event gold medal in the World Cup at Gabala, Azerbaijan on Monday. The duo beat Russia 7-6 to emerge victorious in the competition. France beat Iran 7-6 to claim bronze.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has introduced the mixed shooting event in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. At the World Cup, it will not be considered for the medal tally.

However, in the individual event, success eluded Rai and Heena, as they failed to qualify for the final of the 10m air pistol. London Olympics bronze medallist, Gagan Narang, and Sanjeev Rajput failed to reach the 50m prone rifle event final.
