The event, which offers a total prize money of pounds 300,000, is open to professional players like Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump, who are expected to vie for top honours.

The five-day event, to be held under the aegis of the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI), will see 64 cueists qualifying via a tournament in England. The BSFI will field six players as per national ranking to make it a 70-man field.

Former world champion Geet Sethi said the event would not only give a fillip to the sport, it would raise the profile of Indian players as well, adding, “it is a big chance for home players to raise their standard and become role models”.
