F1 drivers, including Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button surprised chefs at the Jaypee Golf Spa and Resort here by gorging on Indian food.

“I realised that besides the adventure of racing their mean machines, some of the world’s fastest drivers also look for the added dose of delight in having Indian food. From chhole-bhature to dosa, they try to taste everything and at the same time enjoy it,” said Shivanand Kain, chief chef of the resort, the official abode of the F1 drivers and celebrities.

“But they are very particular about diet; they do not eat anything against the advise of their dietician. They restrict their calorie intake but try a lot of Indian food,” said Kain.

German Vettel, seeking his third straight victory in the Indian GP, loves north Indian cuisine, spicy.

“I know what each driver likes to eat in Indian cuisine as it is the third time they are staying here. Their dieticians keep guiding them on protein requirement and carbohydrate intake.” A team of about 80 chefs is busy catering to the needs of the visitors.

The drivers are also swaying to the tunes of Indian music. The hotel authorities have brought in folk musicians from Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab. “We are offering the best of Indian hospitality to them as we believe in Atithi Devo Bhava,” said a senior official.
