India win in Beach volleyball at Asian Games

Indian pair of Kasi Viswanadha Raju and Kiran Kumar Reddy fought their way to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Sothearith Nget and Rom Mon of Combodia in the Beach Volleyball event of the Asian Games here today.

Indian pair of Kasi Viswanadha Raju and Kiran Kumar Reddy fought their way to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Sothearith Nget and Rom Mon of Cambodia in the Beach Volleyball event of the Asian Games here today.

After two successive losses, the Indian pair finally tasted some success as they saw off their rivals 50-40 (14-21 21-13 15-6) in a 37-minute Pool E match.

The Indian pair had lost to Kazakhstan and Malaysia in their previous two encounters at the centre court here.

In the Pool F match, Indian pair of Jameeluddin Mohammed and Ravinder Reddy Sara also shrugged off a one-game deficit to register a 2-1 win over Ismaeel Hassan Al Sheeb and Mahmoud Ahmed Assam of Qatar in a 46 minute battle.

The Indian pair had a forgettable outing so far in the tournament as they lost 0-2 to Japan in the opening match, before suffering another 0-2 loss against Thailand.

But Jameeluddin and Ravinder produced a brilliant come from behind 53-47 (17-21 21-16 15-10) win to bring cheers to the Indian camp.
