Akhil in quarters
New Delhi: Akhil Kumar gave a resounding start to India's boxing campaign in the Arafura Games, advancing to the quarterfinals with a thumping win in the opening round of the event in Darwin, Australia on Monday.
Akhil, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist from the 2006 edition in Melbourne, beat Marescot Michael 21-6. The 29-year-old took a 7-0 lead before his rival tried to stage a fight-back but the Indian was so dominant that he ensured that the scoreline showed the difference. “I used the uppercuts for most of my scoring.
