11 principals held for cheating

The State Vigilance Bureau has unearthed a big racket in evaluation of answerbooks of the Madhyama Examination, 2007.

With the arrest of 14 persons, including three principals of Patna-based high schools, and eight of different Sanskrit Schools, the State Vigilance Bureau has unearthed a big racket in evaluation of answerbooks of the Madhyama Examination, 2007.

The arrested principals acted as Centre Superintendents at the evaluation centres.

The Madhyama Examination was held in April and the results were declared in June. During investigation, the Vigilance Bureau detected large-scale irregularities in declaration of results of students even without their registration, tampering of marks in the tabulation register and appointment of examiners without ascertaining their eligibility.

However, the more startling detection was that of the total 18 lakh answerbooks of 2.30 lakh examinees, 3 lakh answerbooks were not evaluated even though examiners were paid, said ADG (Vigilance) Neelmani.

Again, there were answerbooks which carried marks on the cover page though the answers were not evaluated. Instead of standard marks foils, non-standard marks foils were used to fill up marks arbitrarily.
