Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday condemned the deadly attack by suspected Maoists in Khagaria district and rushed a team led by his deputy S K Modi to the site of the carnage.
Modi, accompanied by Land and Revenue minister Narendra Narayan Yadav and Director General of Police Anand Shankar flew to Khagaria where the massacre by suspected Maoists took place at Amosi Bharen village late on Thursday night leaving 16 villagers dead.
"Violence has no place in society and the incident is highly condemnable. I am sending a ministerial team with the DGP who will submit a report to me by afternoon," Kumar told reporters.
The chief minister said prima facie, it appeared to be the handiwork of Maoists, "but the state government will take a final view and order an inquiry after getting the report from the team."
Kumar announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1.5 lakh, including Rs 50,000 from the CM's relief fund, to families of each of those killed in the attack.
The Special Task Force was carrying out a combing operation in the area.
