Even before the start of intermediate examinations on Wednesday, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) hit its first roadblock when reports came in regarding answers of the first paper, biology, being leaked on Whatsapp in Gopalganj.

The matter came to light after Gopalganj district magistrate Krishna Mohan received a Whatsapp message on his cell phone containing answers of the objective part of the paper, at around 9.45am, even as the exam was about to commence.

“I immediately notified the DEO about this,” said the DM, adding that he had received the message from a parent.

Gopalganj DEO Ashok Kumar said he got information at 9:57am and verified the answers. “I found the answers to be correct and recommended to the the DM for cancellation of the objective part of the examination,” said Kumar. BSEB secretary Sriniwaschandra Tiwari told HT that the answers were leaked by a student from inside the examination hall.

“As per initial reports, it appears a student inside the examination hall leaked the answers, since it happened after the examinees entered the hall. The examination was conducted, nonetheless,” said Tiwari. “We will inquire into the matter and come out with a decision in a couple of days. If needed, we will cancel the objective part of the examination,” said Tiwari.

No such incident was, however, reported in the second shift of Class 12 examination. However, reports from various districts revealed that more than 100 students were expelled across the state for using unfair means. No expulsion, however, was reported from Patna.

FIRST PAPER ‘BREEZY’

Students coming out of the examination after the first and second shift of examination said the first paper was “pretty easy.”

“It was an easy paper. Both objective and theory portions were a cakewalk,” said science students Aliya Khan, Priti Kumari, Amita Arya, Rafiqua Rahman and others of JD Women’s College at the Bankipur Girls’ High School centre. “Many questions matched the BSEB model papers, which was a huge advantage,” they said. Philosophy student Aprajita also echoed similar sentiments.

“The first paper was easy. It instilled confidence for the coming examinations,” said Aprajita.

ISC EXAM OF CISCE

The Class 12 examinations conducted by Council for the Indian School Cer tificate Examinations (CISCE) also kicked of f on Wednesday. The first paper was sociology, which is not taught in Patna schools affiliated to the council. Meanwhile, around 500 Class 12 students of such schools would appear for the examination from Patna at five centres.
