Armed Maoists raided a BMP camp on Sahkund Road in Akbarnagar area of Bhagalpur district, 225 kilometres southeast of Patna, late on Sunday night grievously injuring four BMP jawans and looted arms and ammunition.

Three injured constables have been admitted to the local Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College Hospital for treatment while one jawan has been referred to Patna for treatment as his condition was stated to be very serious. All police stations in the district have been put on high alert following the incident.
According to police sources, the Naxals, numbering about 30, arrived at the camp on two vehicles.
Firing indiscriminately, they entered the camp.
The BMP jawans returned the fire. However, with the Naxalites being more in number, the jawans were ultimately overpowered. Some of them were mercilessly beaten up. After the incident, the Naxals escaped towards Akbarnagar.
The BMP jawans injured in the firing included Shivram Kujur, Vishwa Mohan Prasad Nitish Kumar.
Eastern Range DIG Amit Kumar, who left for the place of occurrence, confirmed the incident and said the Naxals looted two stenguns and four SLRs.
Since the place is located at a distance from Banka and Munger districts, notorious for Naxal activities, the extremists must have travelled a distance for carrying out the raid, said the DIG.
Incidentally, it is after a long gap that a major incident of Naxal violence has been reported from Bhagalpur district.
