Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Monday that the state government would ensure a speedy trial for the Japanese tourist who was gang raped in Bodh Gaya on Friday, April 16.
"The state government will ensure speedy trial of the case in a record time," Kumar said.
He said three of the five persons named in the case had already been arrested and hoped that the police would be able to file a charge sheet soon.
He admitted that the gang rape case had "tarnished the image of Bihar and country. It is an intolerable act and those responsible for it be sternly punished," he added.
The 25-year-old Japanese tourist was gang raped by five unidentified men at Bodh Gaya in Bihar on Friday night.
The five pulled the woman out of an auto-rickshaw carrying her to the Gaya railway station and committed the crime at an isolated place, Superintendent of Police Sushil Khopade had said.
The Japanese woman is a resident of Itabolutachi in Tokyo and is currently on a tour of various Buddhist pilgrim towns in India.
