The festival has different names in different states, even though it is celebrated on the same day. The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Centre on petitions challenging a rule that allows government agencies to intercept communication on all social platforms and electronic devices. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the CBI on former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar’s appeal against his conviction in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Kumar had approached the Supreme Court on December 22 challenging the life imprisonment after the Delhi High Court rejected his plea seeking an extension till January 30 to surrender. (PTI)

Firefighters douse a fire that broke after a cylinder exploded in a tent at the Digambar Ani Akhara at the Kumbh Mela site, in Prayagraj. According to reports, the fire started in one of the tents at Digambar Akhara and quickly spread. Police and fire fighters are at the spot to carrying out rescue operations. (PTI)
