Heavy rains during the night and on Monday morning in Mumbai and its outskirts inundated low-lying areas, delayed trains and slowed down vehicular movement. Two days of downpour helped the city surpass its average rainfall for June. Between 8.30am on Friday and 8.30am on Sunday, Mumbai recorded 327.5mm rain, compared to 182mm received in the first 27 days of June. (Shashank Parade / PTI)

At least 35 people were killed and 17 others were injured when an overloaded mini bus veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning. The annual pilgrimage to Amarnath cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas began on Monday under tight security. The first batch of 2,234 pilgrims arrived in Baltal and Pahalgam, the base camps for the pilgrimage in Ganderbal and Anantnag districts, on Sunday. They began trekking to the shrine located 3,888 metres above sea level on Monday. (ANI)
