Photos: Thousands accompany Vajpayee on final journey to Smriti Sthal

The last rites of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were performed by his foster daughter Namita Bhattarcharya at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal in New Delhi. The body of the BJP veteran was earlier kept at his official residence -- 6 A Krishna Menon Marg and was later taken to the BJP headquarters at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg where senior leaders, including PM Modi and Amit Shah, paid their tributes. Heightened security covers and traffic advisories remain in place in light of thousands expected to pay a final homage to the former PM and witness his last rites.
