The fast bowlers led by Jasprit Bumrah got India off to a blazing start in the 2024 T20 World Cup as they beat Ireland by eight wickets at the Nassau County Stadium in New York. Ireland were blown away for just 96 runs and India chased it down in 12.2 overs, winning by eight wickets.  (PTI)

Hardik Pandya was the leading wicket-taker for India with figures of 3/27 in four overs. Mohammed Siraj, meanwhile returned 1/13 in his three overs while Axar Patel took one wicket. Axar and Ravindra Jadeja both bowled just two overs with the day being dominated by the fast bowlers.  (ANI)

While he wasn't the highest wicket-taker, Bumrah was easily the most impressive of the Indian bowlers. Bumrah returned figures of 2/6 in the three overs that he bowled and won player of the match for his efforts.  (ANI)

Gareth Delany was the highest run scorer with 26 runs in 14 balls. His innings pretty much ensured that Ireland don't break any unwanted records for lowest scores in the history of the tournament.  (AP)

Rohit then found a steady partner in Rishabh Pant and the pair went about extinguishing any faint chances that Ireland may have seen due to the early wicket. Rohit scored 52 off 37 balls but had to then retire hurt due to a hit that he took to his shoulder while batting.  (ANI)

India lost another wicket in Suryakumar Yadav when they needed just six more to win but Rishabh Pant finished the job in style, hitting the winning runs with a reverse-scoop six off fast bowler Barry McCarthy in the 13th over. Pant finished unbeaten on 36 off 26 balls.  (ANI)
