An eight-month-old girl, identified as Gauri Chabukswar, was kidnapped from her parents by an unidentified woman on Tuesday evening , said police officials.

The incident happened at the Pune railway station.

The parents had come to the city from Ambegaon in Akkalkot three days ago in search of work, officials said.

A case under Section 363 (kidnapping) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the railway police station against the unidentified woman.

Senior police inspector Manoj Khandale of Pune railway police is investigating the case.

The parents of the child were identified as Lakshmi Chabukswar and Gensiddha Chabukswar. The family of three was living on the railway station since they arrived in Pune. After failing to find work, they were headed back to Ambegaon when the accused woman approached them.

“She gained their trust after spending some time with them. She bought new clothes for the child and promised a job to her father as a security guard with a salary of ₹15,000.

“She then called one man and asked him to take them for dinner at a nearby eatery. She insisted upon taking care of the child while the parents had food. When the two came back, she was gone with their child,” said Khandale.

The police have dispatched four teams to track down the woman who took the child.

The kidnapping has happened a month after another child was kidnapped from a

footpath in Maldhakka. The Bundgarden police found the infant a week later outside the city limits.
