Average response to Gold sales on Akshay Tritiya in Pune
Though the rate of gold didn’t shoot up high, there was not much rush at the jewellers shops
Akshay Tritiya, considered an auspicious day to buy gold, was lacklustre this year in the city. Though the rate of gold didn’t shoot up high, there was not much rush at the jewellers shops.
“We saw a continuous inflow of customers throughout the day with many demanding mangalsutras and other jewellery items. Today’s rate of gold for 22 carat gold is ₹30,770 at our shop. There were customers asking for necklace and chains. The response was good on Akshay Tritiya day,” said Priyanka Vanjari, sales head, PN Gandgil Jewellers, Laxmi road.
Prashant Ashtekar, partnerowner, BN Ashtekar Jewellers shop, said, “This year, the sales was lower as compared to last few years. One of the reasons was three per cent goods and services tax (GST) on gold sale. Some are still struggling with the after-effects of GST and demonetisation, so there is not much enthusiasm and money left with people to buy gold on such auspicious days.”
Customers were enthusiastic about buying gold.
Sharvari Shah, who visited a shop to buy gold, said, “Every year, I buy some grammes of gold on Akshay Tritiya. I bought a 10 gm gold ring. There was not much rush seen around jewellery shops in the city today.”
Vehicle sales go down
The vehicle sales decreased on Akshay Tritiya this year as the Pune Regional transport office (RTO) registered 3,706 vehicles till 4 pm on Tuesday, as compared to last years 5,694 vehicles.
According to a data received from Pune RTO, of the 3,706 vehicles, 604 were four-wheelers, 2,854 were two-wheelers and 248 other vehicles. A revenue of Rs 10,69,00,000 was collected on the registration of these vehicles.
Sanjay Raut, RTO official said, “There was a sharp decline in the registration of vehicles, especially the four-wheelers. The main revenue comes from the sale of four-wheelers. The sales have gone down as people are not willing to spend money on new vehicles.”
