Partnership of 138 helps PYC qualify for under-16 cricket tournament knockout
PYC won the toss elected to bat first and had put up a decent score of 174 runs on board
PYC continued with another win in their second match of the three league match against Dastur Boys with 11 runs.
The opening partnership of 138 from Rohan Phadke (95 runs) and skipper Soham Shinde helped PYC to qualify for the knockout stage of the captain Shivrampant Vishnu Damle trophy under-16 inter-club cricket tournament at the Katariya high school ground, Mukundnagar on Sunday.
PYC won the toss elected to bat first and had put up a decent score of 174 runs on board.
The opening partnership from the skipper and Phadke helped PYC to finish with 8.70 run rate in 20 overs for with a loss of only one wicket of Shinde, who scored 69 from 55 before getting dismissed by Sachin Das of Dastur Boys. Phadke scored his second half-century, 75 not out of 55 balls and was also awarded player of the match award.
For Dastur Boys, Sachin Das only managed to take a wicket with an economy rate of 6.75 (4-0-27-1)
While chasing the target of 175 runs, Dastur Boys team lost their first wicket, Shantanu Dhange (1 run) in the very first over.
The game was shaped by the skipper Sachin Das for Dastur boys after coming to bat at one-down by hitting six quick boundaries before he was bowled out by Akshat Jain of PYC.
Das managed to score 31 runs of 27 balls. The skipper left to pavilion, when the team was yet to score 138 runs from 80 balls.
“I thought, I could make it to win but the ball from Jain kept low and straight into the wickets. The team played very well and has one more chance to qualify for the knockout . The batting format is doing good, improvement is required in the fielding and the bowling sections,” said Sachin Das, skipper, Dastur Boys.
Tilak Jadhav who came to crease replacing Das, entertained the spectators and tried to get the game back on track by power hitting 3 sixes and 7 boundaries scoring 60 runs in just 26 balls but could not make it win as felt short with 11 runs to chase before getting dismissed on the last ball of the match.
For PYC, Shubhankar Vishwakarma, Rohan Phadke, Anish Jagtap, Akshat Jain and Purab Upadhyay took one wicket each, where Vishwakarma was the most efficient bowler with (4-1-22-1) at the economy rate of 5.50.
I am very happy as the team has qualified for knockout stage. Today bowlers played very well which has helped to win the game and the opening partnership laid the winning foundation said, Shinde, skipper, PYC.

The ball was coming slowly in the beginning, so we focused on rotating the strike. As the ball turned older, we managed to send loose deliveries out of the park.
