PMC starts process to appoint NGO representatives in ward offices
The process was initiated after the high court ordered the PMC to complete the appointment process within two months.
Pune Municipal Corporation has initiated the process to appoint representatives from non-government organisations(NGO) in the ward offices. The process was initiated after the high court ordered the PMC to complete the appointment process within two months.

Saurabh Rao, municipal commissioner, said, “The advertisements for the same have been published in newspapers and we appeal to the NGO representatives to fill up the forms. The elected members will choose the NGO representatives from the nominations.”
As per the programme, the registered NGO member need to fill up the form before May 30. These nominations forms will be available from May 20 in each ward office.
There are total 15 regional ward offices in PMC and each ward office will have three NGO representatives. These representatives have a budgetary allocation of Rs 5 lakh per year to spend in the regional area. Also, they will have to be present for meetings of regional ward office.
The name of the NGO representative should be there in the voting list and he/she needs to submit the forms in person.
Meanwhile, it is being observed that instead of appointing members to form the NGOs, the political parties are appointing their workers to these posts. Earlier, Qaneez Sukhrani, a NGO representative of Nagrik Chetna Manch had filed a public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court regarding the same.
