Following the technical debacle and eventual one-day shut down of the online portal for first year junior college (FYJC) admissions , officials said Pune students did not face errors.
On Wednesday, education minister Vinod Tawde declared that the online portal for FYJC admissions would be shut down for maintenance after a series of complaints over technical errors were reported by students and parents. However, the shut down apparently took place only in Mumbai, said an official.
In a statement to media, Tawde declared the shut down to resolve technical problems. “The website will be shut on Wednesday to fix problems. Even if this delays the admissions by a day, parents and students should not panic. It is being done to ensure that students do not face any technical difficulties while entering their college choices and filling out the online application form,” he said.
The statement also mentioned that the process of filling the admission forms will however continue in all other divisions except Mumbai. The Class 11 online admissions for FYJC began in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Amravati.
“We had received complaints regarding crashing of the web portal, speed issues, among others from students in Mumbai. As the number of students applying from Mumbai are much more than any other division, servers on the website had slowed down due to excessive load. We haven’t received any complaints from Pune or any other division,” an education department official confirmed. Further, he added that the problem was encountered while filling the Part 2 form as most of them have already filled the first part of the form.

{{/usCountry}}Over two lakh students,who have passed the Class 10 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams have applied for admission but only 67,289 students have fully completed the application. As of now, almost 30,000 students, are yet to fill Part 1 of the form.
Tawde has assured that the students should not worry, as the plan to improve the servers and increase the bandwidth is underway. Also, officials have mentioned that the deadline of June 27 to fill forms, will be extended to June 30.
“In case the expected numbers of students don’t complete forms, we will extend it. No injustice will be done to them,” said the officials.
The department of centralised admissions, for the first time had made the process online across Maharashtra. The technical expertise to handle traffic is yet to be attained so that the portal does not slow down, hang or crash. Previously, FYJC admissions were online only in major cities like Mumbai and Pune.
