Shraddha Talekar who is training at Krida Prabodhini, Pune for the last twelve years is aiming to get selected for the Indian team in coming years. Talekar, who won a silver medal for the Maharashtra team, is happy with the way things went for her at the 55th junior artistic gymnastics national championship, which concluded at Shiv Chhatrapati sports complex, gymnasium hall, Balewadi on Sunday.
Talekar tells Jigar Hindocha of how she plans to make the Indian team.
When did you start gymnastics?
I joined gymnastics when I was in Class 4 in Thane. I started gymnastics as a fun activity, but soon I started liking it. I joined Krida Prabodhini in 2007 and since then, I have trained under Sanjog Dhole, Sanjeevani Purnapatre, Pravin Dhage and Yogesh Shirke.
Coaches’ view on your talent...
My coaches in Thane told my parents that my movements are natural and I should continue with gymnastics, from then on, I never looked back and have completely focused on the sport.
How has Krida Prabodhini helped you with the sport?
Krida Prabodhini provided me with good facilities and I got the benefit of practicing under quality of coaches. My current coaches, Dhage and Shirke are helping me a lot. We are also practicing new moves which I will perform in the upcoming tournaments.
What aspects do you need to improve to get selected for the India team?
First of all, I need to start performing tension free, which I am practicing since the selection trials of the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Although I did not get selected for Commonwealth Games, I will stay positive and keep on performing well.
How do your parents look at your career?
I am 25 now, so in most cases, parents think about marriage, but in my case, it is completely different as my parents are very supportive and they want me to see in the Indian colours. So they have told me to continue with the sport and not to worry about other things.
