A 21-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and stabbed to death by three of his friends during a party following a fight over a love affair in Pune on Tuesday, police have said.

Kothrud police said Akshay Jori was stabbed in the neck with a broken beer bottle allegedly by Sushant Ombale after they consumed alcohol during a party at the house on Paud Road.

A profusely bleeding Akshay was rushed to Sahyadri Hospital in Kothrud but was proclaimed dead on arrival. The other accused have been identified as Prashant Ombale and Sagar Mestri.

Appasaheb Shevale, Kothrud police station in charge, said all of them have been arrested under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code after Akshay’s father Balu Sitaram Jori lodged a complaint.

Balu told the police that his son and Sushant fought with each other after Akshay told the girl’s parents about her relationship with his friend.

Akshay had told his family on Monday at around 8:30 pm that there was an altercation with Sushant over the former’s love affair but the dispute has been resolved and all the friends were going for a party at Flat no 55 of Kalagram Residential Society.

Balu received a call at 4:30am on Tuesday from his brother-in-law Santosh Shete who told him that his son was injured. When he reached Sahyadri Hospital, doctors informed them of Akshay’s death.
