According to the police, the victim, identified as Nargis Asif Shaikh (45), a resident of Salisbury Park, was watching a show on her mobile, when her husband Asif Shaikh, a local businessman, instructed her to stop watching the same. The couple had earlier quarrelled and hence the wife refused to oblige. An enraged Asif attacked her with a knife. Nargis sustained injuries to her hand and also dismembered her right thumb. The neighbours on hearing the commotion came to her rescue.

Nargis was rushed to a private hospital, where her condition has been declared stable. Rajesh Usgaonkar, sub-inspector at Swargate police station, said that on the complaint filed by a neighbour, the husband has been booked under Section 307 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused is currently in police custody.
