Pune to host 101st rose exhibition
Over 2,000 roses of different sizes, shapes and colours will be on display, with 16 stalls that will also showcase plants, garden equipment and fertilisers.pune Updated: Feb 14, 2018 15:41 IST
The rose society of Pune will present its 101st rose exhibition on February 17 and 18 at Tilak Smarak Mandir, Tilak road. The exhibition will be inaugurated by mayor Mukta Tilak at 3 pm on Saturday.
Over 2,000 roses of different sizes, shapes and colours will be on display this year, with 16 stalls that will also showcase plants, garden equipment and fertilisers. “Stalls for rose cultivators from across the state are also available,” said Chandralekja Ramrao Jagtap, president,rose society of Pune, adding, “Newly invented species of roses will also be exhibited.”
Supriya Gadgil will be felicitated by Mukta Tilak with the Laxmibai Anantrai Naik silver medal and Nitin Patil will be honoured as ‘pioneer rose farmer’ by Dipak Tilak, chancellor, Tilak Maharashtra University. Winners at the show will be felicitated on February 18 by Sharad Gatne, ex-president, rose society.
Established in 1962, the society came into being thanks to Jayantrao Tilak, who would organise a rose exhibition every year at Kesari wada during the Ganesh festival .
Visitors can attend the festival between 10 am and 8 pm on Saturday and 9 am and 8 pm on Sunday at the Tilak Smarak Mandir.
